Volunteer Leadership Opportunity
Standing Bear, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the mission of the Standing Bear Center is seeking qualified individuals interested in serving as Volunteer Members of its Board of Directors.
This is an opportunity to contribute your time, expertise, leadership, and perspective to an organization committed to advancing educational, cultural, scientific, and public-serving purposes.
Board service is a volunteer position. Directors are not compensated for their service, although authorized and properly documented expenses incurred in performing Board duties may be eligible for reimbursement in accordance with organizational policies. The bylaws specifically address Board compensation and expenses.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO:
- Are committed to the mission and long-term success of the Standing Bear Center
- Bring strong leadership, professional, community, or organizational experience
- Are willing to actively participate in Board meetings and organizational activities
- Can provide thoughtful oversight, strategic guidance, and accountability
- Understand the importance of cultural preservation, education, and community engagement
- Can contribute expertise in areas such as:
- Nonprofit leadership & governance
- Finance & accounting
- Fundraising & development
- Grant writing
- Marketing & communications
- Museum operations
- Education & programming
- Cultural preservation
- Legal or compliance matters
- Business development
- Community relations
- Strategic planning
BOARD MEMBER EXPECTATIONS
Directors are expected to actively participate in the direction, management, and oversight of the Corporation and perform their duties in accordance with applicable law, the Articles of Incorporation, and the organization's Bylaws.
Board members should be prepared to:
- Attend and actively participate in Board meetings
- Review financial and organizational information
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight
- Support fundraising and organizational development efforts
- Serve as ambassadors for the organization
- Protect the integrity and mission of the organization
- Contribute their professional knowledge and community connections
- Commit the time necessary to be an effective Board member
WHO CAN SERVE?
The organization's bylaws provide that Directors are appointed by the Member (Ponca Tribe of Nebraska). A Director does not have to reside within the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska Service Delivery Area but must meet the applicable eligibility requirements of the organization's governing documents and any applicable requirements of the Tribe.
